HOT OFF THE PRESS: 2013 CASTLEMAINE VISUAL ARTS BIENNIAL UPDATE

The 2013 Castlemaine Visual Arts Biennial is shaping up to be a strong event featuring a major exhibition program responding to the Festival theme, Elemental, and will present works by Central Victorian, National and International artists.

Curated by Guest Curator – Bindi Cole, together with Festival Visual Arts Coordinator – Deborah Ratliff and Castlemaine State Festival Director- Martin Paten, one of the main exhibition spaces for the Visual Arts Biennial will become a ‘laboratory’ in which Victorian based artists will collaborate to create new work over the duration of the Festival. Able to observe the development of artwork and the making process in real space and real time, audiences will have the opportunity to engage with the artists and discover how the works have grown and changed over time. Barriers between artist and public, Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal communities will be eroded through an immersive environment of collaboration, conversation and participation.

We look forward to revealing more about other exhibitions in the coming months by local artists utilising familiar sites for unexpected, immersive experiences and installations to engage and delight audiences.
