Castlemaine State Festival 2023

Qwerin---Event-Image-#5

Castlemaine State Festival presents

Qwerin

Queer nightlife collides with traditional Welsh folk dancing in this pulsating mash-up that’s rich with movement, music and colour.

The brainchild of Osian Meilir, who trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and has since collaborated widely with artists and dance companies, Qwerin has an original soundtrack by some of Wales’ most renowned musicians and costumes that edgily interpret traditional Welsh folk dress. Meilir has given a contemporary edge to the weaving and flowing patterns of folk dancing, but the main emphasis here is on joy.

Event Details

This event will take place as a 25 minute surprise pop-up on
Friday 24 March,
Saturday 25 March &
Sunday 26 March.

Keep your eyes peeled around the Big Top and hopefully you’ll be one of the lucky ones to experience the Qwerin phenomena!

THE DANCERS WHOOP, THE COLOURS WHIRL. ‘QUERIN’ BECOMES THE BODY ECSTATIC.

It really touched me more than any other contemporary dance performance has. How they 'came out' and supported each other in the process of being their authentic selves. Inspirational!
