ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!
As we enter the final weeks before the 2013 Castlemaine State Festival, the town in abuzz with activities and preparations. It is both an exciting and crazy time as sets are built, artists prepare for exhibitions and final rehearsals start. This is when all the big ambitious ideas of the last 2 years finally come together.

Seven shows are already fully booked, and many more are close to selling out, so if you haven’t already finalised your tickets, now is the time!
Box Office is open Thurs – Sat, and from the 1 March it will be open every day except Sunday.
This weeks highlights of the Festival include:
Water Reflections – award winning Danish theatre company Carte Blanche are bringing a mesmerising and magical children’s theatre piece. With reflections, mirrors, projections and special effects Water Reflections will surprise and entice, and leave you in a state of awe.

Chantes des Catacombes – guaranteed to be one of the ‘must see’ events of this years Festival. With rehearsals well underway, the haunting and beautiful voices of its performers have already been heard drifting beyond the walls of the historic Old Castlemaine Gaol. This ethereal and mystical promenade theatre is also a rare journey through this remarkable building with live music performed by The Twoks interpreting songs by Portishead, Nirvana, Laura Marling http://youtu.be/BUDENcjt-OQ

The Sun Songbook: Music of Peter Sculthorpe – Led by Australian jazz trumpeter Phil Slater, the Sun Songbook is a modern jazz ensemble performing adaptaions and interpretations of one of Australia’s pre-eminent composers. Sculthorpe was declared a National Living Treasure in 1998, and hold and Order of Australia and the British Empire for his work as a composer. http://youtu.be/N2qqj1_ILyA

Collective DNA: Literature Program – Featuring a range of cross-disipline artists – writer, performers, actors, singers and dancers, the 2013 Literature Program invites you to spend time with these phenomenal artists in a series of works that explore a range of topics including:

Declaim to Fame: featuring Rodney Croome – campaign coordinator for the Tasmanian Gay & Lesbian Rights Group, and Australian Marriage Equality.
Voice & Co. Workshops – NINE workshops over nine days focusing on voice, noise, beat box, throat singing, sonic spaces, Sudanese women’s songs, storytelling, phonetics, body percussion, hip hop & harmonising. Workshop participants are also invited to perform at the Festival Finale in Victory Park.
