Diane Thompson begins with the philosophy that universe is creative energy and this life force permeates everything. This creative force is reflected in the world of nature and greatly influences the subject matter in her artwork. She is also inspired by the history of symbols and traditional indigenous arts and culture. She has received a number of
awards, including 2009 Winner: The Tesselaar Sculpture Prize, 2011 Winner: The Inaugural Association of Sculptors of Victoria Award and highly recommended awards from numerous exhibitions.
‘The screen print reflects a time of contemplation, reflection and vision questing for both myself and my husband in the 1990s. My 3 step sons and 2 dogs are there with us on the farm in Taradale. I am cloaked in a patchwork blanket that had been made for me by a group of supporters before I travelled to Gariwerd for a 3 day solo bush experience.’
On the Farm is currently on display at The Taproom, 5A/9 Walker St. Castlemaine.
