SUMMARY:Live at Castlemaine: Lucas Debargue
DESCRIPTION:Lucas Debargue’s rise began at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition\, where critics and audiences were stunned by the individuality of his musicianship. His performances revealed an artist shaped not by the usual conservatory trajectory but by an unusually broad and inquisitive mind — one equally nourished by literature\, painting and jazz. This unconventional path has given him a musical voice that feels entirely his own. \nSince that breakthrough\, Debargue has performed in many of the world’s leading halls — from the Berlin Philharmonie and Concertgebouw Amsterdam to Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall — and has appeared with major orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra\, the Mariinsky Orchestra\, and the Orchestre de Paris. Wherever he plays\, he is admired for interpretations that are meticulous in craft yet fearless in imagination\, revealing unexpected layers in both well-loved and overlooked repertoire. \nA Sony Classical recording artist\, Debargue has built an acclaimed discography that spans Scarlatti\, Bach\, Chopin\, Ravel and beyond\, alongside his own compositions — more than twenty works for piano and chamber ensembles that reflect the same searching spirit that defines his performances. \nBorn in Paris and trained under Rena Shereshevskaya at the École Normale de Musique de Paris\, Debargue has carved out a singular place on today’s international stage. Each appearance feels less like a recital and more like an exploration — shaped by intuition\, intellect\, and a continual desire to reach the inner truth of the music.

SUMMARY:All At Once....
DESCRIPTION:All At Once… is a large-scale cane and bamboo installation that unfolds like a living system: a tall central dome surrounded by a constellation of smaller interconnected structures. Covered in translucent paper and textile membranes\, the work appears almost organic – something part-built\, part-grown\, and open for people to gently move through. \nEach space has its own character. Some look back – offering encounters with stories\, textures and traces of the region’s history\, shaped by its geology and biodiversity. Others hint toward what might come next. Visitors travel between these “nodes” at their own pace\, discovering shifts in light\, sound\, scale and atmosphere. \nAt the heart of the installation sits the Now Dome – a generous central space designed for pause\, presence and contribution. Here\, people are invited (not instructed) to leave small drawings\, notes\, thoughts or quiet gestures on the walls\, building a collective record over the festival’s duration. It’s a space that holds possibility rather than prescribing meaning. \nMoving outward again\, the final nodes gesture toward imagined futures – speculative\, fragile\, playful\, uncertain. They don’t answer the questions they raise; instead\, they create room for curiosity about what resilience\, creativity and community might look like in the years ahead. \nWheelchair accessible throughout\, All At Once… is less a linear narrative and more an ecosystem to wander through – a work shaped by material\, light and the imaginations of those who meet it. Visitors may leave with a sense of connection\, reflection\, or simply enjoyment of the structure itself. The installation asks nothing in particular of you\, and offers many ways in.

SUMMARY:Tubango
DESCRIPTION:For Astor Piazzolla tango was always for the ear rather than the feet. Composer\, bandoneón master and inventor of nuevo tango\, he revolutionised the form\, transforming traditional tangos for the dance floor into concert works with jazz and classical music elements. In this special concert TangoMundo is joined by the Thompson’s Foundry Band tuba quartet creating an instrumental combination unlike any other. Performing new arrangements of Piazzola compositions by Guillermo Anad\, in a cabaret style setting\, expect to enjoy well know works and discover lesser-known gems. Experience the expressive potential of brass to reinvent the sound of tango. \n  \nThis performance of Thompson’s Foundry Band is being sponsored by the family of the late Yui Kwong Mak in his memory. During Mak’s time studying engineering at Castlemaine Technical College in the early 1960s\, Mak developed a lifelong admiration for the Band.
