Winter 2012 Update

FROM THE PRESIDENT
Some of our loyal members may well be asking what the committee of the Friends has been doing for the past three months since the AGM. The truth is some have been on extended holidays while others have been quietly enjoying the winter months.
Most of our energy seems to be going into catering and food stalls, rather than the social events and concert program that many of our Friends are seeking. This is due to our obligation to raise funds to support the Festival and a failure on our part to attract sufficient audiences to the events we presented over the past year or so.

I would ask you to consider supporting our upcoming events as time draws closer to the launch of the 2013 Festival. With the Festival being held earlier than usual (15th-24th March) the launch will take place in December so you might even consider booking tickets for friends and relatives as a Christmas gift!

THE GREAT NEWS is that in response to Friends requests tickets for 2013 Festival events at Castlemaine Town Hall and Phee Broadway theatre will have ALLOCATED SEATS – so, early booking will ensure that you can book the best seats available – no more standing in long queues or arriving early to fight your way to good seats.

Thank you to those Friends who indicated their willingness to help with our Lions Club catering event on the weekend of 21st & 22nd September. This has now been confirmed and I will be organising the rosters shortly and will be in touch to confirm your availability.

UPCOMING EVENTS
We are pleased to announce a Valuation Day for Sunday October 7th in conjunction with Joel’s Auctions. Joel’s will send a team of three experts who will be on hand to provide valuations on your treasured items. The event will be held at Castlemaine Town Hall from 11am to 4pm with morning/afternoon teas and light lunch available. More information will be sent closer to the date.

In November we are planning a pleasant Sunday brunch to be held at ‘Hedgehogs’ in Margot Rottem’s lovely garden. We will keep fingers crossed for some gentle weather and provide some wonderful entertainment and food for all to enjoy.

On Sunday September 9th we have been invited to set up a food stall at a major event organised by Castlemaine Hot Rods. This will be held in Chewton at Ron and Carol Hadfield’s property and has the potential to raise significant funds for the Friends of Castlemaine State Festival. We are hoping to contribute at least $10,000 to the 2013 Festival to support the program, and this event will help us to achieve our goal. If you can provide some help to cook or serve the BBQ between 9am and 4pm please contact Michael Treloar on 0407074052 or Val (see details below)

We currently have two vacancies on the committee and no secretary. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED in joining our working committee please contact us for more information. The current committee has looked seriously at whether it can continue without additional support.
