Castlemaine State Festival presents

The Wonder of Little Things: Lea McInerney and Ali Cobby Eckermann yarn about Uncle Vince Copley’s memoir

Vince Copley was born on a government mission into poverty in 1936. By the time he was fifteen, five of his family had died. But at a home for Aboriginal boys, he befriended future leaders Charles Perkins, John Moriarty, and Gordon Briscoe. They were friendships that would last a lifetime.

Vince, who died in early 2022, shared his story over many cups of tea with his friend and scribe, Lea McInerney. It is a story told with great humour, humility, and wisdom.

Lea sits down with award-winning poet and writer, Ali Cobby Eckermann to discuss this plain-speaking account of hardship, courage, optimism, and the importance of seeing the ‘wonder in little things.’
