Castlemaine State Festival

Castlemaine State Festival 2023

EMPLOYMENT

CHIEF EXECUTIVE/ARTISTIC DIRECTOR (CEAD)

The Castlemaine State Festival (CSF) has its roots in the Victorian town of Castlemaine. Castlemaine began as a gold rush boomtown in 1851 and has developed into a major regional centre. The Castlemaine region is known for its vibrant creative community, local food and wine and natural surrounds. An easy train ride from Melbourne (90 mins) or to the nearest Regional City, Bendigo (30 mins), Castlemaine is well serviced by schools, hospitals and other services.

In parallel with the biennial festival, the organisation is now at an advanced stage of redevelopment of the Castlemaine Goods Shed which is operating as the growing creative industries hub, Goods Shed Arts. The Victorian State Government has already committed $6 million to the initiative and further support is being sought from major philanthropists and the Federal Government.

One of the oldest multi-arts festivals in Victoria, and one of the most durable festivals in Australia, the CSF is looking for a creative and energetic executive leader who has the knowledge, experience and drive to lead the organisation through its most significant period of growth, change and impact.

Reporting to the CSF Board, and in return for a competitive salary and 10.5% superannuation, the Chief Executive/Artistic Director is responsible for the professional and successful management of both the biennial Festival and the operation of Goods Shed Arts.

Your application should demonstrate the following:

  • Artistic leadership: the successful development and implementation of artistic programming.
  • Organisational and strategic leadership: staff leadership; stakeholder relations; managing the public face, reputation and brand of CSF; resource management; implementation of Strategic Plan; Board liaison and reporting.
  • Multi-stream revenue generation: grants; philanthropy; donorship; business partnerships and sales.
  • An understanding of audience segmentation and the ability to tailor festival programming to ensure optimal attendance and the commercial success of the Festival and Goods Shed Arts
  • Solid financial performance and risk management.
