Castlemaine State Festival Presents

Somebody Stop Me!

Knowing John Romeril

John Romeril is a local and national legend. A playwright, poet, essayist, and talker, his more than sixty works span theatre, radio, and film. He has been a long-time Castlemaine local, a leading member of the fabled Australian Performing Group and a widely-roving cultural collaborator. The site-specific performance will take place at the idiosyncratic mud-brick and recycled timber house John built on communally-owned bush at Walmer. It is an assemblage drawn from his work, a patchwork of found pieces, offering glimpses of his thinking and writing and of the swings and roundabouts of a remarkable life.
