In 2006 Beyond the Pale was commissioned to create new interpretations of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in celebration of his 250th birthday. In response, this extraordinary group conceived a full concert program which reinterprets symphonic and choral compositions within an intimate folk group context. Instruments rarely heard in Mozart’s music, such as the accordion and mandolin, reinvigorate his melodies with fresh musical inflections that render the work simultaneously radical and warmly familiar.

Beyond the Pale have achieved a deeply considered and sensitively mastered new Mozart repertoire in which melodies are recast within European folk forms and given new life. This exciting Australian premiere of Beyond Mozart will open our music program at the Castlemaine Town Hall.
