Literature Overview
COLLECTIVE DNA: WE ARE MADE OF STORIES, POETRY AND SONG
Some of us write a thing down, some of us talk a thing out, some of us sing it. Some of us hole up in our rooms, confide it to our journals, carve it into our desktops at high school, ink it on our skin when we’re old enough, strike a chord or beat our drum when a ‘thing’ needs saying. Some say it on canvas, some on the playing field, some on film. Some capture it in a photograph, a look, a gesture; and just about all of us have been caught – for better or worse – with ‘something’ to say on the dance floor!
We’ve all got stories, poems, songs and poses (and the photographs to prove it). We’ve all got something to say and our own way of saying it.
In the 2013 Castlemaine State Festival Literature Program, we’ve got stories you’ll recognise, poems you’ll understand, songs you’ll be humming and moves you’ll wish were your own. Oh yeah! We’ve got your literary giants and we’ve got slayers too; locals and internationals, newbie authors, dancers, doctors, puppeteers, journalists, critics, playwrights, lawyers, actors, poets, activists, comics and singers. And to top it off we’ve got a dedicated venue and a dedicated artist creating an integrated artwork! (Tim Craker … Google, friend, poke, tweet him … you know the drill.)
And we’ve got you …
