For Astor Piazzolla tango was always for the ear rather than the feet. Composer, bandoneón master and inventor of nuevo tango, he revolutionised the form, transforming traditional tangos for the dance floor into concert works with jazz and classical music elements. In this special concert TangoMundo is joined by the Thompson’s Foundry Band tuba quartet creating an instrumental combination unlike any other. Performing new arrangements of Piazzola compositions by Guillermo Anad, in a cabaret style setting, expect to enjoy well know works and discover lesser-known gems. Experience the expressive potential of brass to reinvent the sound of tango.
This performance of Thompson’s Foundry Band is being sponsored by the family of the late Yiu Kwong Mak in his memory. During Mak’s time studying engineering at Castlemaine Technical College in the early 1960s, Mak developed a lifelong admiration for the Band.
