Laura King and Jonathan Wilson
The Castlemaine State Festival in partnership with the Mietta Foundation presents the winners of the 2016 Mietta Song Competition, Laura King (soprano) to be accompanied on piano by Jonathan Wilson.
The Mietta Song Competition began in 1995 and was first held at Mietta’s, the Melbourne restaurant in which the late Mietta O’Donnell and her partner Tony Knox established a salon of all the arts, especially for music. The annual song award was run by Mietta from 1995 until her untimely death early in 2001. The Mietta Song Competition (so named after her death) has been held 14 times since its inception and has become firmly established as one of this country’s premiere art song prizes. (Art song is usually a work written for solo voice and piano in the classical music tradition.)
