Mandolin Magic: Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra

What’s the collective noun for mandolins? A murmur? Anyway, if you haven’t heard a rhumba or tango plucked en masse on mandolins before, now’s your chance. The Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra – now more than half a century old – may be a returning favourite at our festival, but it constantly challenges itself to explore new terrain. This concert brings together music from Latin America and Japan, as well as commissioned works from contemporary Australian composers. The orchestra is fleshed out with classic guitars, mandolas, accordions and double bass.
